Educational Programs
World flute specialist Peter Phippen has been performing
musical programs in schools throughout the country since 1993. These
interactive musical presentations are geared for students grade school
through college, and are both educational and entertaining. The
program, entitled “World Flutes: Past and Present”,
stresses the important role that music has played in various cultures
around the globe. Utilizing Phippen's personal collection of more than
200 instruments, students hear and see flutes, whistles, and drums
from a variety of time periods and ethnic groups while learning
the folk tales and customs connected with their use. These programs
also incorporate student performers and large screen visual effects.
Types of Programs
School Assemblies – 45 to 60 minutes in length; geared to the comprehension level of the student audience.
Residencies – May be scheduled 1 to 5 days in length:
- 1 day: Consists of one or two school assembly programs; individual classroom demonstration; or master class tailored to the needs of your school.
- 2 to 5 days: Consists of all the “one day” activities, plus more in-depth presentations of musical practices of various cultures; hands on performance with authentic ethnic instruments; development of improvisational performance skills in a group setting; and a final showcase concert for the school community including student performances. TEAMWORK is fostered in the creation of an exciting music performance experience.

Peter just finished 3 one hour performances for our students in grades 4K-5th grade (400 students). He was easy to work with to coordinate the needs of our district and had a wonderful performance. He entertained the students, educated them about flutes from around the world, and captivated the students – one of the student’s favorite flutes was his “nose flute”. I received several complements from students and staff about his outstanding performance. Many of them even purchased his music for their classrooms following his performances.
